The Buddy Cup was designed to solve a common challenge at public gatherings: the need for a secondary cup without the bulk of carrying extras. Our team developed a unique "cup-within-a-cup" system that allows users to share a drink seamlessly at tailgates, campsites, or sporting events. By integrating a detachable outer sleeve that functions as a standalone cup, the Buddy Cup transforms a standard tumbler into a versatile, two-in-one social tool.

The core engineering challenge for this project was developing a threading mechanism that was secure enough for transport yet effortless to operate. We designed a custom thread geometry that allows the outer cup to glide on and off the main vessel with minimal rotation. The design ensures a tactile, high-quality feel while maintaining a sleek profile that fits comfortably in the hand or a standard cup holder, whether the cups are joined or separated.
Durability and Field Utility
Built for rugged environments, the Buddy Cup is engineered to withstand the rigors of outdoor use. The material selection focuses on impact resistance and thermal retention, ensuring the inner cup remains insulated while the outer cup provides a clean, slip-free drinking experience for a friend. This project highlights our ability to take a lifestyle concept and execute it through precise mechanical design, resulting in a product that enhances social interaction through functional innovation.

Buddy Cup Tumblers are designed in the USA and engineered with human-centric design in mind. The final product is 20 ounces, fits Standard cup holders, and made of durable stainless steel w/ powder coating.
